Different Kinds of Water Filter Units

Different Kinds of Water Filter Units

Water Filter

Water filter units can be found in most hardware stores and from professional suppliers. These units vary in type, size, operation, and cost. Depending on the contaminants you are trying to remove, the type of system you will need varies. When trying to decide the system you need, the first step in determining the best system is to have a water analysis done by a professional. Once you know the contaminants you are dealing with, next look at your application.

Some water filter units are designed to continuously filter all the water for the household while other models are designed to filter at only one tap. Depending on your needs, you will also need to consider the mounting requirements and maintenance requirements. If you choose the whole house model, you will be filtering water for washing clothes, showers and all other aspects using water. This system will depend on the water source as well. This will also require easy access for servicing and filter changes.

Also keep in mind the chance of spilling the contaminated water and filter when changing so make sure it Is not on a wood floor. Other water filter units are designed for easily attaching directly to faucets. These are found in kitchens and bathrooms. These units only filter the water for use at the faucet and no other area in the house. These types of units are cartridge based. These types of units are easy to service, however, their service life on the cartridge is relatively short.

What Kind Of Residential Water Filter Should You Use To Get Really Pure Water? Find Out Here

What Kind Of Residential Water Filter Should You Use To Get Really Pure Water? Find Out Here

Water Filter

It just cannot be denied. The state of water pollution today has never been worse. Literally thousands of chemicals and other dangerous contaminants can be found in our drinking water supply. Can a residential water filter protect us from them? Let's find out.

While it's true that tap water contains many impurities that are very detrimental for health, it's also true that a quality residential water filter can remove them and provide upto 99% pure drinking water. The only problem is in finding the right kind of purifier.

There are many different types and brands of purifiers available in the market. If you choose the wrong one, then the effects would be the same as having no purifier at all in your home. The right purifier, on the other hand, can provide effective protection against contaminated water and the health problems it can cause.

To know if the water purification unit you have selected is really effective or not, check if it can handle the following common contaminants -

Chemicals like chlorine
Chlorine is added into the water supply by the municipals to kill the microbes present in the water, and it is highly effective at doing so too. The only problem is, it's also bad for the cells in your body and can lead to killer diseases like cancer over the long run.

Common purifier types like RO filters are not able to remove this and other chemicals which have small molecules, as they pass easily through the semi permeable membrane used inside them.

Heavy metals
As the water travels though the old, rusty pipes of the water distribution network to reach your home, it picks up small quantities of lead and asbestos from the joints of the pipes. These heavy metals slowly accumulate in your body and cause problems like hypertension, miscarriage, hearing loss and a lower IQ in children. Most purifiers are able to remove these metals from the water effectively.

Sediment and Organic matter
These are the simplest contaminants of all to remove from the water. RO filters, Distillers and even UV filters can get rid of them by using a carbon filtration unit inside.

An important check
RO filters and Distillers remove minerals like calcium and magnesium from the water, which our body needs for its internal processes. Make sure your chosen residential water filter doesn't do as, as it can cause many health problems later.

The best thing to do here is to use a multi stage filter based on a combination of techniques like Carbon filtration, Sub Micron filtration and Ion Exchange, which can remove all the contaminants and still preserve the natural mineral content of the water.

Go ahead now and find out a quality residential water filter for your home right away.

Sediment Water Filters - Are They Just a Waste of Your Money?

Sediment Water Filters - Are They Just a Waste of Your Money?

Water Filter

The manufacturers of sediment water filters have enjoyed a fair number of sales over the last couple of years using an advertising campaign designed to catch the eye of mostly suburban homeowners.

These filters range from simple sand traps, to electricity driven equipment like reverse osmosis filter systems. These filters serve a purpose, but not for the average homeowner.

If you are one of the millions that have their water supplied by municipal water treatment facilities, then you have absolutely no need for a filter system that removes silt and sand.

This is because one of the main objectives of the treatment facility is to strain your water for particulates. The water travels through porous membrane filters that get progressively smaller as they go, and this removes all but microscopic particles.

There isn't a sediment water filter on the market that is going to collect a large number of particulates from water that has been through the treatment facility.

Their equipment is designed for demineralization, so you don't have to worry about particulates showing up in your water.

What you do have to worry about though is everything that the treatment facilities do not remove from your water.

Did you know that just about every one of the 80,000 industrial chemicals we use everyday in order to make our lives easier ends up in the water supply?

How about the fact that the favored method for disposing of out of date pharmaceuticals is flushing them down the toilet as recommended by the pharmaceutical companies?

Do you realize that the chemical used most often to disinfect our water was once used a chemical weapon?

It is impossible for the porous membrane filters of the water treatment facilities to eliminate chemical contaminants from our drinking water, so obviously sediment water filters aren't going to help you here either.

Expensive, wasteful reverse osmosis equipment features an activated carbon filter that will remove chemical matter from your water. What are you going to do about cysts and toxic heavy metals though?

Cysts are chlorine resistant parasites that are a threat to the health of everyone that drinks unfiltered tap water.

A special filter that uses sub micron technology is necessary in order to effectively remove these microbes from your water.

Toxic heavy metals such as copper and lead are eliminated through the use of an ion exchange, which swaps sodium and potassium for the heavy metals in your water and also balances your pH levels.

A sediment water filter is needed in places where the only available water comes from wells, and a simple sand trap will do just fine here.

Some people dependant on well water choose to use reverse osmosis filter systems, because they perform demineralization and reduce chemicals. They would be better off with the same countertop tap water system people in the suburbs should be using, and using the low budget sediment filter to trap sand and silt.

Sediment water filters may not be useful to everyone, but a tap water purifier featuring granular activated carbon, submicron technology, and an ion exchange certainly will be.

Why Filtered Tap Water Is Better Than Unfiltered Tap Water and Bottled Water

Why Filtered Tap Water Is Better Than Unfiltered Tap Water and Bottled Water

Water Filter

What kind of water do you drink? Bottled? From the tap? Are you concerned about the purity of the water you drink? Do you worry about chemicals in your water? Are you thinking of buying a water filter, but don't know which type to buy?

Drinking good old H2O is likely the single most important thing we can do for our health. Just a 2% drop can cause dehydration and reduce our physical and mental performance. Without it we would perish in just a few days. As important as water is, many of us worry about the purity of the water we drink, and it that weren't enough to worry about we now must consider the environment when making choices about water.

Purity and environmental sustainability are what matter when it comes to making smart choices about water. So let's take a look at tap, bottled and filtered water more closely.

Tap Water

Tap water is there for all of us to drink thanks to our public utility systems. We just turn on the tap and out it flows. If you've lived or traveled in a country where there is no clean public water, you will understand what a blessing tap water is! It is safe to drink, however, because of the earth's hydrological system, the same water is recylcled over and over again, and because we humans have introduced over 75,000 toxic chemicals into this system, the purity of our tap water is questionable. The many chemicals we use in our everyday lives inevitably wind up in our water as do chemicals from industry and agriculture.

Bottled Water

Is bottled water really pure and is it sustainable? Hardly.

40% of bottled water comes form the tap, the same stuff you draw from your own tap at home. There is very little regulation for bottled water so it is difficult to be certain about what you are really getting. Bottled water is also expensive. Or rather the marketing of it is expensive and this is what people pay from to a gallon for. It is bad for the environment. The production (and recycling) of plastic bottles and the transportation of water, sometimes from across the globe, produce large amounts of CO2. This is unnecessary and harmful to the environment.

While not all bottled water is bad it is on the whole is an expensive convenience and not good for our environment.

Filtered Water

Water filtering systems take our sustainable yet imperfect public water systems and turn them into a safer and sustainable option and free flowing filtered water from your tap costs only pennies a day.

Filter systems fall into two categories: carbon filtration and reverse osmosis. Carbon systems are thought to be very effective at removing contaminants and are very good value for money. Reverse osmosis systems claim to be the most effective and are somewhat higher priced. Makers of carbon filters claim that reverse osmosis systems should not be used because also remove healthy minerals.

Both carbon filtration and reverse osmosis systems can be installed at 'point of use' (right at the tap) or at the main water line ('whole house' system). Only carbon filters are available as 'pitcher water filters' (like Britta systems). These are cheap and practical, but are the least effective in removing impurities.

Water is absolutely essential for good health and for our survival so if the only water you have is unfiltered from the tap, by all means drink it! But in our own homes we can make wise choices and when choosing between tap, bottled or filtered water, filtered is the best option.

Filtered water is the healthiest most economical and environmentally friendly water we can drink.

Choosing the Best RV Water Filter

Choosing the Best RV Water Filter

Water Filter

Anyone who has spent a week or more on the road in their RV knows how expensive and inconvenient buying bottled water can quickly become. When used for washing, drinking and cooking it simply is not cost-efficient to use prepackaged water; having a water filtration system in your vehicle is a worthwhile investment that will pay for itself while providing peace of mind about your potable water supply.

Do You Need An RV Water Filter?

Do any of these things apply to your RV kitchen sink? Water that tastes bad, smells terrible, barely flows out of the faucet and even has a strange tint that doesn't seem natural; if this sounds familiar it is time to go shopping. With the amount of chemicals that are often present in our natural water supply it is unwise to chance drinking some that hasn't been run through an RV water filter beforehand; you wouldn't do it at your house, so why would it be any different on the road?

Have Filtered Water Like At Home

Just like the attachment that might be on your faucet back home, an RV filtration system uses simple processes to provide the cleanest, safest drinking water for your family and friends. Most come in the form of a filter canister that can be mounted in nearly any position on your vehicle. Inside this contraption a carbon filter and sediment filter work together to find and separate nearly everything that you don't want to ingest. Rest assured that the cup of water you pour at night for yourself will not contain harmful contaminants or chemicals, simply the finest blend of hydrogen and oxygen that your body needs.

Don't Be Intimidated

At first it may be overwhelming to see all of the wires and tubes that protrude from your new water filtration system but don't worry; once installed they are simple to operate and clean. Love high-pressure showers? You can even adjust the gauge on the pressure regulator to control just how much water will come out when your faucets are turned on. Keeping your RV water filter properly maintained will ensure that harmful chemicals that not only smell and taste bad but are actually detrimental to your health will be a thing of the past.

Imagine having access to all of this while you are rolling down I-95 or cruising across the country on US 50. And with so many different models available on the market now, there is a RV water filter that fits your budget and lifestyle.

Cleaning Tap Water With a Homemade Water Filter

Cleaning Tap Water With a Homemade Water Filter

Water Filter

Many people say that the tap water all over the world it is not safe for drinking. They I right. Research studies conducted all over the world show that the water contains harmful chemicals.

Even in the major cities in the States the water can not be drank safely.

I had to reconsider my option of drinking tap water. It is not safe. Then I did a market study and saw the prices on the water. I was scared when I saw the result. A family that buys bottled water to drink spends around 3000 dollars a year just for that. I decided to look for other ways to get safe and clean water.

If it was possible, a less expensive way to do that. After a short period of time I discovered that using a tap water filter helps me eliminate the dangerous bacteria and debris from the water. The filter even eliminates the heavy metals and the parasites. But still, many of the filters were expensive and even hard to use. I had a problem. Some filters are so accurate about cleaning the water that they even remove some good minerals in the tap water.

And that can damage our health. The recent studies have clearly shown that the lack of minerals in the water can cause many and serious diseases.

This is the reason why you need to know what the filter at your home does precisely. If yours removes 95% of the heavy metals in the water, don't use it. It will eliminate the good minerals also. I wish this article has provided you with some helpful information on how to deal with the problem of having safe water.

Your Old Water Filter May Be Making You Sick!

Your Old Water Filter May Be Making You Sick!

Water Filter

The water filter installed in your home is supposed to help you by filtering and cleaning the water that reaches your faucet. Because today's rivers and streams (even underground water supplies) are more and more polluted and the demand for fresh water in on the rise, water purifying plants cannot always offer you pure water.

To increase the level of protection for you and your family, you should install a cold water filter. But once you have installed such a water filter, it will not function forever. Water filter manufacturers specify that you should keep your filter in a good shape by avoiding damaging it and replacing it after its lifespan has ended.

Most people forget to replace the water filter and by doing so, they expose themselves and their family to more severe perils then to not having a water filter at all.

To understand why changing your water filter is vital, you should know how water filters work. Most modern water filters are based on the carbon's property to absorb impurities from the water. The carbon filters are thicker then ordinary filters, taking the water longer to pass through all the filter's layers, ending up with more pure and cleaner water.

The carbon water filter also absorbs bacteria and chemicals (such as pesticides) from the cold water in addition to the debris, but when the filter gets clogged, its purifying and cleaning properties will decrease. These sediments that gather in your water filter contain bacteria and other dangerous substances and if you do not change it at the recommended moment, you will end up with all these substances and debris in your cold water.

Replacing the water filter is fairly easy. Water filter manufacturers provide replacement filters at affordable prices, so buying them is not an issue. Changing the filter is also straightforward, as all you have to do is take the old filter out of its socket and put the new one in its place. Simply unlock the filter canister by turning its cap about one fourth turn to the left and redo the procedure, in the reverse order, to replace the water filter.

You can find the best prices for a replacement water filter either at online shops or in local hardware and plumbing stores. Just make sure you buy the exact filter suitable for your own type of cold water filter.

Brita Water Filters - The Ugly Truth About Brita Water Filters

Brita Water Filters - The Ugly Truth About Brita Water Filters

Water Filter

Brita water filters are the so-called 'economical alternative' to bottled and tap water. But are they actually the cheapest alternative available? And perhaps more importantly, are they the best filtration system?

Don't be fooled by the fact that Brita water filters are the 'best-selling' purification products on the market. The only reason this is so true is because they are sold in virtually every store at rock bottom prices. The real heavy costs come with getting a new filter every month.

First of all, what kind of quality can you expect from Brita water filters? Well, any type of pitcher and pour-through filter is very limited in performance, primarily because of their filter size. They are not effective at getting rid of many types of contaminants like cysts, THMs (chlorine byproducts), VOCs (volatile organic compounds), pesticides, herbicides, and harmful solvents.

They also sell faucet filters. Brita water filters like this definitely produce better quality water than the pour-through type. But they still fail to filter out things like gasoline additives and VOCs, which include many kinds of harmful organic chemicals.

But I think the real question comes down to affordability. It's assumed that Brita water filters are the cheapest systems available, and I guess this is true initially. But since the filter has to be replaced every month (3-4 times a month for the pitchers!), the per gallon cost of use is rather high at about 20-25 cents a gallon.

For me, the choice was easy to go with a multi-stage water filtration system for my home. It's surprising, but I got the highest-rated system available, and it turned out it was the most economical and affordable as well! This is because they are sold directly from the factory and are free from additional markups.

I have a water filter on the kitchen faucet and even on all our showers- which is a way bigger concern than drinking water if you can believe it. This is because the steam when showering contains all the harmful chemicals, and inhalation of these chemicals causes them to go STRAIGHT to your bloodstream.

And guess how much it costs to produce one gallon on pure, safe, healthy water using these systems? Nine cents! That's it!

Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Systems - A Shocking Truth Behind the Claims of City Water Officials

Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Systems - A Shocking Truth Behind the Claims of City Water Officials

Water Filter

What if I told you that reverse osmosis water filter systems are not as good as people say.

If you are like I was not so long ago, you would probably be surprised. I would have been!

After all, don't the big city water plants often use reverse osmosis water filter systems' equipment as part of their water purification process?

Well, yes. But I found out that this does not make them safe enough to pass government standards for public drinking water. (Which are a little lax, as you and I appreciate.)

You probably know there are traces of chemicals in our water. This is just an unfortunate fact of industrial life. Factories and farms put chemicals into the ground and many of these toxins and poisons find there way down into the water tables where the municipal authorities draw water for our taps.

Reverse osmosis water filter systems take that water and force it, under high pressure, through a porous barrier. The pores are small -- almost microscopic, in fact -- but most of the chemicals have smaller molecules than water, so the chemicals pass right through the barrier to the other side. In other words, these systems may remove some things, but they don't clean out all the dangerous chemicals.

The proof of this is that the city officials have to clean that so-called filtered water with chlorine to kill the chemicals the federal government requires them to remove, and the bacteria that also slip easily through the barrier.

A reverse osmosis treatment system is good enough to stop some organic impurities and some chemicals, but the water that comes out cannot be trusted to be clean.

This may be OK if you only need to treat for dirty water. These systems might be good for that part of your filtration set up.

They are undeniably useful in the Middle East, where they are used to turn sea water into reasonably clean water. And in submarines which use smaller versions of these systems to desalinate water for crews, who only have to depend on it for a short time.

But where people have to use water that has undergone reverse osmosis treatment things can go horribly wrong.

Not so long ago more than 100 people in Milwaukee died because over one weekend they drank city tap water that had been contaminated with a parasite that usually only caused stomach upsets. No reverse osmosis water filter system can stop a parasite, and neither did the chlorine the city officials had added to the water after it had passed through the barrier. So many people fell ill, and, as I said, scores of them actually died. It's almost unbelievable.

We have to look after our own water supply, and this is what has changed my thinking on reverse osmosis water filter systems.

There are many excellent alternative water treatment systems that can keep us safe. Some of them can easily be fitted into your home. So I suggest you put reverse osmosis water filter systems out of your thoughts for a while.

Do yourself a favor, and look at a couple of alternatives. Actually, I have a web site that might help you. I've put information there on pure water and a recommendation for an alternative to reverse osmosis treatment. Click there now and have read.

How Effective Can a Homemade Water Filter Be?

How Effective Can a Homemade Water Filter Be?

Water Filter

If you are wondering if it's possible to create a homemade water filter then this article is for you. I've been in the same situation and I've finally found a way to make my own water filter.

Not only was the whole setup extremely inexpensive but it's also really simple to make. The reason why I decided to make my own filter was because I discovered just how unsafe our tap water really was. Most of city pipes in USA are decades old are simply can't do a good job at transferring water anymore.

Little did I know that commercial filters are extremely expensive but after realizing just how inflated their prices are I've decided to make my own filter. It was really simple and once I started using I noticed that it's everything me and my family need to drink clean, safe water.

I've calculated that if instead of filtering tap water I'd use bottled water it would cost me nearly 00 per year so by using a simple homemade water filter I've literally saved all that money.

But be careful, because not all filters are the same quality. The ones that base on reverse osmosis remove most beneficial minerals and usually leave a percentage of bacteria in water since you have to use UV lights.

This is why it's important to pay attention to what a certain filter you'll make removes from water because you don't want to get a second grade filter. A good filter should at least remove bacteria and heavy metals.

Please READ: Any ignorant comments about tank size being responsible for fish growth will be deleted! We no longer own this Pleco! On Saturday 9-6-08 our Pleco sold for . He now enjoys a display pond in front of a boat store in San Diego. We purchased him at 2 inches and he was 8 years old when we sold him. The tank was only a 55 gallon but the combination of feeding him steamed broccoli and over filtering the tank (3 Eheims) caused him to grow and grow! ******** Q: How does how much you filter influence size? A: The cleaner the water the bigger they grow. The growth hormones sense that the fish is in open water and growth begins. Once the water is dirty, the growth hormones shut down. Its a survival process that happens when a fish strays off the main body of water or river. This also happens when there is a drought and the river levels are low. FYI: The #1 cause of death for Plecos is starvation. People think that Plecos can survive only on the glass algae. This is FALSE.
